Bitcoin 4 Open Source: A free, high-level training program for developers

The B4OS technical training starts this coming May. Applications are open until the end of April.

With the goal of creating new opportunities for developers in Latin America and promoting the Open Source movement in the region, Librería de Satoshi announced B4OS (Bitcoin 4 Open Source), its most visionary and ambitious training program. Through this new program, it seeks to provide knowledge and tools to advance developers’ skills, enabling them to build a global portfolio of contributions to open-source Bitcoin projects.

Bitcoin training for regional talent

Finding a remote job abroad, with a salary in a strong currency, is a real challenge for many Latin Americans looking to escape inflation in their countries. Even for developers, despite their high international demand.

B4OS offers a free technical training program in Bitcoin and Open Source, with the goal of boosting developers’ careers by improving their technical skills. As part of the training, participants will work on real projects to build an international portfolio and will be mentored by industry leaders. The program lasts 6 months, but only requires a few hours of commitment per week.

A three-phase training plan

The B4OS training program consists of three phases:

  1. Bitcoin Fast-Track Training (2 months): A course open to all developers that aims to provide the skills to answer their questions and reach a basic understanding of the Bitcoin protocol.
  2. Portfolio Building (4 months): Participants who complete the first phase will be able to work and collaborate on a project of their choice, according to their skills, under the guidance of mentors.
  3. Residency Program (2 weeks): Two weeks of intensive training in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where participants will be guided by mentors from Bitcoin Core, Lightning Network and selected FOSS projects.

Looking for the best

The CEO of Librería de Satoshi, Dulce Villarreal, said they are looking to attract programming “seniors and geniuses” to Open Source. “We want to democratize access to Bitcoin technical education in Latin America and the world. B4OS is a unique opportunity for regional talent to stand out and become agents of change in their countries,” Villarreal said.

In the first edition of B4OS, Buenos Aires will become the center of operations. Federico “Fox” Zupicich, Director of B4OS, said this will be possible thanks to the support of the most relevant organizations within the country’s bitcoiner ecosystem, such as ONG Bitcoin Argentina, LaBitconf and LaCrypta.

An exceptional opportunity for developers

Currently, a prominent group of Argentina-based developers is receiving annual grants in dollars or bitcoin. These Bitcoin technology geniuses have the flexibility to work on projects of their choice, from wherever they prefer.

Grants for Bitcoin developers around the world range from USD 10,000 to USD 300,000, depending on time commitment or cost of living. This initiative not only highlights the talent and innovation within the region, but also underscores the lucrative opportunities available in the growing field of Bitcoin development.

The start of B4OS is scheduled for next May. Participant registration is already open and will close on April 30, 2024. Senior developers interested in Bitcoin can take part, with or without industry experience, as well as computer science and cryptography graduates and students looking to specialize or advance their careers.
